About the owner and designer

Ever since Alex Trachter was a child, he has been fascinated with the skins that his father tanned and finished. Alex’s father owned a reptile skin tannery in Argentina since the mid 50’s. At the age of 18, he began working for the family business, traveling all over the world with his dad and meeting the best tanners, manufacturers, and designers of leather products from Europe and the Orient. His father became his teacher and mentor.
After working at the tannery in Buenos Aires for four years, he moved to the US to set up a wholesale leather business in El Paso, Texas, during the “Urban Cowboy” Western boot craze. At first, he shared a building with a high-end custom boot, belt and shoe maker. It was during this time, that Alex came in contact with leather craftsmen and developed his interest in finished goods.
A few years later, Alex moved to another location. The business grew fast, in a short period of time he started importing exotic skins from every corner of the world. Soon thereafter, he decided to make products with his own inventory. Before long, Magna Leather had become the largest private label manufacturer of exotic skin belts for most major brand names in US. In 1986, one of his first customers was the licensee for Polo Ralph Lauren leather goods. It was this customer’s demand for excellence that made him realize that in order to succeed in this business, quality and customer service were essential. After Polo, many other major brands came on board as loyal customers.
Now, after almost 25 years in this business and a lot of planning, the timing was right for this new venture. What gives Magna a competitive edge?
An immediate, unlimited supply of raw materials at first cost.
The capability to develop custom colors and finishes in its own local processing plant.
Proximity to Leon, Mexico, where shoe factories are located.
Warehouse in Leon, Mexico, close to factories.

Alex had an innovative idea to market this footwear. With each pair of Snakers, a matching genuine python bracelet will be included as a value added feature. With future generations of Snakers, the complementary offer may vary, generating excitement among its target customers for both the new footwear design and its matching gift.
This is not just another pair of shoes trimmed in snake skin. The uppers are made with 100% genuine python skin and every pair is lined in full grain leather. Customers will recognize the difference and become loyal to the brand.
I hope you get to love Snakers as much as Alex does, and remember: “These are not just sneakers, they are Snakers”.
